At Rota, our staff work hard (after all, it is our guarantee) but nobody works harder than our most impressive staff member, Alice.
She’s on the clock 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. She never takes any holidays or breaks, never gets sick and never complains about being overworked. In fact, she relishes an increased workload and will do all she can to power through it and provide you with the best service possible.
So, who is Alice? Well, she’s our algorithm.
In a nutshell, she is the string of code working behind the scenes to make sure that our roster of venues get the staff they both need and deserve.
Just like us, Alice is into ‘big data’ (extremely large data sets that may be analysed to reveal patterns, trends, and associations, especially relating to human behaviour and interactions) and she gleans an introductory set of statistics from each of our members as they join the app.
She asks about previous experience, number of years worked, if you have any exceptional skills (e.g. cocktail extraordinaire or silver-spoon training) and loads them in to a basic worker profile. Alice then uses this basic profile to match up our new members to shifts.
From here, Alice will continue to learn and build upon this profile from the information she receives post-shift. She looks at worker ratings and feedback from venues, then uses these statistics to bring together what we have with what you need.
Alice is also pretty damn good at time management. It’s her job to make sure that every shift posted on our platform is pumped out across our member base, but in a way that means our best members see the opportunity first.
So when a shift is posted, Alice sends it out to your preferred members (and other five star members) instantly. This shift is then available for them to take for a percentage of the total time until the work is due to be carried out. For example, if your shift is in three hours’, your favourite members will see it exclusively for half an hour. After this, the shift is then broadcast out to all four star members, then to all three star and so on in incremental batches.
What this means is, if you post your shifts well in advance, the chances of your favourite members of staff coming back are much, much higher. The thing is though; we know that this isn’t always possible in the hospitality industry. People can let you down or problems can arise last minute, but Alice can cater to that too.
If the shift is due in less than 60 minutes, she’ll automatically send it out to everyone we have on our database. She will essentially make 500 phone calls at once, offering the work out to our entire pool of quality assured members. Imagine her as the world’s most efficient recruitment agent, making calls out-of- hours, and getting people through your doors in less time than ever before.
So as you can see, Alice is a very smart girl. She’s constantly evolving as both our worker and client bases expand and she’s never one to shy away from a challenge. She learns as we learn and, if she keeps doing us proud, we might even give her Christmas off…
